In (tardy) response to the previous post, legit places do use soothing music. Go to a Thai place and see what I mean. I really enjoy it when in the mood for a, ahem, real massage.
But the places providing extras keep it quiet so the provider can hear what's going on outside for obvious reasons. You can thank LE for the lack of... atmosphere.
Ever had a provider jump right off you in a hurry after some idiot tried to open the wrong door? Those girls live on the edge...

The full service joints will also keep the rooms too dark for my taste, in part so the johns can't film the action surreptitiously.

Not really! Here in L.A. it's reception counter, plain rooms with tables, (sometimes) shower or table shower, and two-way mirrors. Dark and drab.
If the masseuses dressed up like in these pics (likely from Japan & Thailand), they'd get busted pronto.
At my old favorite AMP, the girls wore the white lab coats with name/license tags as per city ordinance. An older Korean lady would make you sign (your fake name) at the counter. Well, the cops shut them down...
